Periodic Training is designed to confirm and expand upon existing knowledge and skills of each driver to ensure that they continue to be safe, courteous and fuel efficient.
The training will also enable drivers to keep up to date with ever changing regulations, and to benefit from training throughout their career. The directive became effective on 10th September 2008 for the PCV sector, with the LGV Sector directive effective from 10th September 2009.

For new drivers it introduces an initial qualification, the Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence), which increases the amount of knowledge that drivers need before they can drive.
There are several funding bodies that can assist with the cost of your training and development.
